With a title that recalls and pays homage to the famous Manual of Anatomy "Gray's Antomy", the series takes its name from Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), presented as the protagonist but that equally divides the screen with his colleagues, in a show choir setting with many characters, coming and going during the years; initially a medical drama, focusing on clinical cases encountered week after week, the series has slowly shifted his attention to the protagonists and their interpersonal relations, leaving patients to do background and from shoulder to these events, that the public has now found more engaging.
This setting is what allowed the characters to Grey’s Anatomy to face very deep character developments: the Meredith Grey's first season would never even imagined could become what it became ten years after, and the same can be said for many other, starting from his best friend Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh). Another key element of the series is the fan devotion, that enabled it to reach and cross the finish line of the eleventh season ’, with the twelfth already confirmed for autumn ’ 2015 (thus continuing, could beat the record of E.R.): Despite the ratings decreased physiological over time (especially during the seventh and eighth season), Grey’s Anatomy can always count on a large share of loyalists, as evidenced by the average of 9 millions of viewers a week reached in 2014. This longevity makes possible an in-depth and detailed analysis of each character, dedicating more time periodically to some and not to others, necessary decision when dealing with a cast so numerous: So what, If at the beginning everything revolves around the relationship between Meredith and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), Once their tormented love story is a balance here that they remain in the background as they pass in the foreground, one at a time, all the others.
The strength of Grey’s Anatomy is, above, to treat from the perspective of a surgeon, always used as a metaphor for life in General, in reality, universal themes: from broken hearts to betrayal, by ’ friendship (maybe never on television has been described so well) the mourning, from weddings, ambitions and professional disappointments and so on and so forth. Nobody would have bet a penny on a seemingly so little lovely, "dark and twisty" as she defines, that at times seems to have no even will to live: Yet the narrative made us discover that beyond that there was more and, growing up with the characters for years, in episodes of Grey’s Anatomy Now you can breathe the atmosphere of home and family. This is the biggest talent of Shonda Rhimes, now one of the leading and most successful television producers: in making the viewer feel more than a spectator, almost like he was involved first hand in the Affairs of the hospital in Seattle.
